The best way to stay organized when moving is to keep a list of activities or tasks you need to accomplish and, as you complete the tasks, mark them off your list. The problem with writing your list on paper is, you will inevitably lose or misplace the paper. It will get lost in your purse or you’ll set it down and forget it somewhere.
The Challenge of Stairs During Your Move
Stairs don’t seem to be much of a challenge if you are healthy enough to go up and down without a problem. But residential movers in Saint Paul see the problems that you can encounter with stairs every day. When trying to go up and down those stairs with large or bulky items, things can get tricky.
Create a Moving Plan to Direct Your Efforts on Moving Day
Moving Day is going to be a busy, hectic day. If you don’t create a plan, you’ll find yourself being jerked around in all different directions by events. Those events will dictate the flow of your day, which will not only affect the day itself but your entire week. Don’t let that happen to you. Here are some tips for creating a moving plan that will help you stay in control on moving day.
- Before you do anything else, draw a map of your office or home (the one you’re moving to). Not only will this give you the layout of the building, but it will also let you know which entrances and exits are best for each room you’ll move furniture and boxes into.
- On your map, write how many boxes you have going into each room, and include the dimensions of each room so you know how much square footage you have to work with.
- Make a note of any furniture you plan to move into each room. Draw that piece of furniture in the room on your map where you intend to take it. This will save time for the movers so they are not repositioning your furniture. You’ll also find it helpful to write the dimensions of your furniture on the map.
- Label each room with a number and boxes that are to go into that room.
You might find that it makes more sense to move some items through your back door and others through the front. Or you may discover as you are planning that one of the doors is not wide enough for certain types of furniture. Knowing this in advance will make your move go more smoothly, cut down on headaches, and get it done more quickly.
Minnesota Spotlight: Saint Paul
Are you moving to the Twin Cities, but not sure which city would be right for you? There’s plenty of love to go around, but some Minnesotans have their preferences. In this blog, we’re going to highlight some of the reasons to move to St Paul, Minnesota.
Winter Activities
Since it’s winter practically all year round in Minnesota, it’s important to know what to do when there’s snow on the ground. St Paul has a number of cross-country skiing trails, ice fishing lakes and sledding hills. From St Paul it’s a short drive to many snowmobile trails and downhill skiing facilities. It has an active ski club so you can adventure around the area. Also, St Paul has a number of shops where you can rent almost any outdoor winter activity equipment.
Sporting Events
St Paul hosts the Minnesota Wild, Minnesota’s own ice hockey team. If you’re moving to the Twin Cities, being a hockey fan is practically a prerequisite. Cheer on the home team from Xcel Energy Center throughout the entire NHL season. The St Paul Saints also call St Paul MN home. They are a professional baseball team, not affiliated with any major league teams. This team turns up the excitement from the middle of May through the beginning of September.
Endless Entertainment
St Paul has the best of both worlds. No matter what your hobbies are, you can probably find a group of people who love the same things. There are amusement parks, golf, zoos, shopping, parks and so much more. Whether you’re the type that likes to dine in or dine out, you’ll be calling St Paul home. What to Expect on Moving Day
The big day has come. No, not your wedding day or the birth of your child. It’s moving day. And as your Minneapolis professional moving services experts, RJ Moving knows very well the stresses and conflicts that can occur on moving day. That’s why we want to make the process as effortless and stress-free for you as possible.
There’s a lot to do, and a short amount of time to do it in. Therefore, it’s important to have all your ducks in a row on the day of your move. Here is a list of things you should have ready or be prepared to do on moving day:
- Put aside and take along all important documents and paperwork (medical records, birth certificates, etc.).
- Pack drinks and snacks for you and your family.
- Have travel documents on standby, if applicable. This means things like tickets, hotel reservations and so forth.
- Think about what else will need packed and how much time will be needed to complete the job.
- Have all the boxes labeled and ready by the door to be hauled out. This is important, as it makes the process go faster and saves you money.
So, that’s what you should have ready to go by the time we get to your current address. But, what about the actual moving day process?
- Finalizing cleaning and similar services.
- Check to make sure everything is packed.
- Be sure that your “Open First” box is the first one to be packed and the first one to be taken out.
- Stay with the movers until the job is done, and make sure our driver has your new address, so he or she knows where to go.
- Have ready everything you need for the trip to your new address.
- Once loading has been finished, make sure you have locked all windows and doors, and turned off all switches and appliances.

Moving With Pets? Tips to Follow
Moving can be hard on people. But, it can be even harder on your pets. For a beloved pet dog or cat, the moving process can be very stressful. As a Minneapolis moving company, the RJ Moving team has seen our share of pets being impacted by moving. Here are some ways you can make your move easier on your furry friends:
Get veterinary records
Are you moving far from Minneapolis or wherever you live currently? Then you’ll need to get a new vet, so it’s best to obtain their records to pass along to whoever will be your new vet. Depending on where you are moving to, your pet may need more vaccinations, medications and health certificates. Keep your current veterinarian’s phone number handy in case of an emergency or if your new vet would like to speak to your old one.
Keep your pets away from the packing and loading/unloading
Your dog, cat or other pet may feel vulnerable on moving day, so it’s best to quarantine them off to an area with ventilation that is safe and quiet. The bathroom is usually a good place. Make sure to make the area with a sign indicating where the pets are. Even if your pet isn’t feeling vulnerable, it’s best to do this as the loading and unloading process involves open doors, which can lead your pet to escape.
Prep your new home
Your new home might confused or frighten your pet. Therefore, it’s imperative that upon arrival at your new home, you put out all the things it will need, like food, water, a litter box, toys, etc. That way, your pet can feel a little bit of comfort and normalcy during this tough transition.
